Although the small airport at Chambery is technically closest to Meribel the flights here tend to be more expensive and can suffer from delays and diversions when the valley weather is bad. Far more tourists choose to fly to & from Geneva airport just over the French-Swiss border instead. The journey time is slightly longer at approximately 2.5 hours – but the prevalence of low-cost airlines and convenient flight times ensures that getting from Geneva airport to Meribel is the easiest and most popular travel route during the ski season.
Geneva Airport to Meribel Ski Resort
At 139km and approximately 2.5 hours, Meribel does not have one of the shortest ski transfers from Geneva airport. However, its location ensures it is one of the shortest transfer journeys in the area. Meribel sits at the beginning of the Tarentaise Valley which includes such well-known French resorts such as Val Thorens, Courchevel & Val d’Isere. Being one of the closest resorts to the highways and motorways leading out the valley means it has up to an hour shorter journey time than these big name ski towns though.
