Christmas & New Year Private Ski Transfers

Typically the weeks surrounding Christmas and New Year are some of the busiest of the whole season for skiers and snowboarders travelling out to the mountains. It’s easy to see why too; With school holidays in operation many families take the opportunity to visit France, Italy or Austria in order to spend Christmas week in the snow. New Year week tends to see groups of friends heading out to the mountains for a week of skiing and partying, with many resorts like Tignes having a big free celebration on New Years Eve as well.

Travelling from the UK to the ski slopes during this two week period is still easy to organise, but can present some unique problems given that it is the holiday season. Namely, it is going to be far, far busier than almost all other times throughout the winter. Flights and hotels tend to sell out much quicker than normal during Christmas and New Year, but there are still opportunities to grab a good deal if you plan ahead.

In terms of airport to ski resort transfers, at Snowcompare we still have availability for low-cost private transfers during this period but even we are seeing many of our transfer partners getting booked up on the busiest of dates. As is always the case, the busiest day of the week is a Saturday, and if you are travelling on the 23rd or 30th December then it is going to be more difficult (but not impossible) to find a really cheap private transfer option.

We would definitely recommend trying to travel on other days of the week if at all possible for you given your accommodation changeover day. Certainly AirBnB-type apartments are going to have more flexibility in terms of the dates you stay, and this is something that can definitely be taken advantage of. Booking a private ski transfer on a Sunday or any weekday can drastically reduce the cost (Check our blog on ‘The money saving magic of booking ski transfers on weekdays or Sundays)’) and snowcompare.com still has plenty of availability left for airport to ski resort transfers on all dates around Christmas and New Year.

Another challenge facing skiers & snowboarders travelling in Christmas holiday period is that many hotels, transfer companies and airlines will hike their pricing and still be confident of selling their services due to the increased demand. Unfortunately this is an issue anyone who has booked a holiday during the school holidays will be well aware of. We can’t influence what hotel and chalet companies do, or how the airlines price their tickets, but luckily Snowcompare can be very helpful in sourcing the cheapest private airport to ski resort transfers.

Peak holiday price increases aren’t an issue if you use snowcompare.com to find affordable airport to ski resort travel options. Many of our partners keep their prices the same for Christmas and New Year week as they are for the remainder of the season and we strongly encourage all our partners not to increase their pricing out of all proportion during these times. Using Snowcompare to book private ski transfers during the main holiday periods means you can find the absolute best prices available from our wide range of reliable, licensed local partners.

Even if you are using the snowcompare.com website to find and book low-cost ski transfers, we would still recommend booking each element of your trip as early as possible when travelling over Christmas and New Year. A bit of advanced planning (check our blog on ‘When is the best time to book my airport to ski resort transfers), and using comparison sites to get the absolute best deals can mean avoiding high costs and even having to rearrange or adjust plans due to a lack of availability.

Transfer cancelled and refund refused

I was booked with Amber Transfers. They cancelled the transfers that I had booked with them 2 days before my outbound flight. I then had to scramble to get an alternative set of transfers at higher cost. They then refused to refund me promptly, so I had to report them to Mastercard via Revolut as not delivering the services that I already paid for and after 4ish weeks I got a full refund. In short, they wasted a lot of my time.

Easy to compare prices and excellent communication came back very quickly to answer questions I had and picked up a mistake I had made with the date and came back to me to double check.
